Guided culinary tour of Tsukiji outdoor market - Tokyo

Explore Tsukiji's outdoor food market and sample its culinary specialities!

The Tsukiji district was once known for being home to the world's largest fish market, which opened in 1935 and closed in 2018.
Even though the fish market and its famous tuna auction moved to the Toyosu district in 2018, an outdoor Tsukiji food market remains and is still a lively, popular hub.

After meeting up with your guide, you'll set off to explore the Tsukiji district and its market. Your guide will first take you to the Tsukiji Hongan-ji temple. This is a unique Buddhist temple with Japanese, Indian and Western architectural elements.
You'll then head to the market and visit the small Namiyoke Inari Jinja Shinto shrine with its impressive lion head sculptures. 

You'll then explore the market and its numerous alleys lined with retail and wholesale food stalls, shops and eateries. You'll find everything from fruit and veg sellers to grocery shops, cafés, sushi restaurants and stalls of all kinds. Your guide will introduce you to a variety of Japanese culinary specialities. A small selection of snacks will be served during the tour.

The tour ends at Tsukiji metro station. If you wish, you can continue to explore the area on your own and have lunch in one of the market's many restaurants.
